Ajou University is closely watching the construction of the CJ Onlyone R&D (research and development) Park and developing a proposal to explain, “what Ajou University can do” to build smooth cooperation. The CJ Onlyone R&D Park, which is due to be completed in September, will be built in Gwang-gyo, across from the Suwon World Cup stadium. On May 28th, Kim Dong-yeon, The Principal of Ajou University, and university executives and professors visited the CJ Onlyone R&D Park to discuss an industrial collaboration between the CJ institutions and Ajou University. The Institutes of Food and Food Ingredients, Life Sciences, Feed and Livestock, and Healthcare will be established in the CJ Onlyone R&D Park; each laboratory is expected to contribute toward developing the local community through an academic industrial collaboration with Ajou University. The Ajou Globe interviewed a Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering, Park Bum, who had actually visited CJ Onlyone R&D. Because of the construction of the R&D Park and the collaboration with Ajou University, students are likely to find jobs more easily in the future. According to Professor Park, Gwang-gyo will be an important industrial complex once the CJ Onlyone Park is finished, because it will promote a stimulating R&D atmosphere, where information is shared between many talented researchers. Collaboration with the Colleges of Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Medicine and Medical Studies in Ajou University will be lively and extensive. Students will be supported by a talented workforce in the CJ R&D workplace. Research students pursuing graduate research into a related technological field will have a substantial advantage when it comes to employment and research cooperation. Many Ajou University students will be interested and want to demonstrate their abilities in the CJ R&D Park. Professor Park has noticed that, in general, most undergraduates end up working in manufacturing sites, while students with Master’s or Doctor’s degrees and sufficient R&D project experience generally work in a laboratory. The CJ R&D laboratories will need a workforce to participate technological developments. For this reason, we highly recommended students entering graduate school to develope their R&D abilities if they hope to work at the CJ R&D Park. Only students who are interested in key natural sciences, engineering, medicine or medical studies are currently welcoming the construction of the CJ Onlyone R&D Park. However, Professor Park points out that students who are majoring in the College of Liberal Arts in business will also be affected by the cooperation between CJ and Ajou University. From an employment perspective, it won’t just be the graduate students who have an opportunity to work in technological laboratories. Increasingly, there are many related occupations, involving law and business. For example, project administration, technological management of IP (intellectual property rights) and marketing are some of the positions open to humanities students. Ajou University is anticipating active cooperation in the fields of biochemical technology with CJ Cheil-Jedang.
