Haiti in 2010, Japan in 2011 and Nepal in This Year.

April 25, 7.8 magnitude earthquake was taken place at Gorka which is located near Kathmandu, the capital of India. It is the worst earthquake after 300,000 people was dead for earthquake in 2010 Haiti, 16,000 people was dead in 2011 Japanese. Nepal government’s the official casualties situation is more than 7,611 deaths and 14,556 injured. Also, foreign affairs announce that thousands of Koreans are in Nepal and three persons of them are injured.

Remaining roar of collapse, Endless screaming.

After 7.8 magnitude earthquake took place on April 25, 20 times aftershocks included 6.6 magnitude was continued during only next day, 26. Residents of disaster area are just miserable. Survivor’s head and body are on cement and dust which the collapse of buildings make. Although blood and sweat flow on their face, they rescue injured with no break. The situation that not professional rescuers, but survivors who are rescued just now go accident district to save other persons show international society they does not miss the rope of hope. On the other hand, other survivor’s figure which lose vitality is in an exhausted condition. Their appearance knows world how they are horrible and disastrous.

Residents who lean against broken building’s outer wall cannot sleep and breathe a sigh of relief easily because they do not know exactly when the earthquake take place again. Under the electricity supply is cut off, what they lean upon is only broken building wall, blanket and boxboard they cannot move everywhere and see everything at night.

Though many rescuers are coming in Nepal from all countries of the world, there are lots of victims who want helping hand of medical team and rescuers. It is happened that persons who was saved barely are just waiting death because of shortage of doctors and medicines. What was worse, savers with no wound does not have place of safety and suffer from hunger and cold which is getting worse. So they have difficulty keeping health consistently. And they have danger about exposure to a virus infection.

Secondary damage of earthquake.

This earthquake’s power is same with the two hundred fifty of atom bombs which explodes at the same time. And this power has an effect on height of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. A GPS analysis team at University in United States said the height of Mt, Everest is lower 2.5cm than before. And Under the situation 1,500 of mountaineer from the world climbed Mt, Everest for spring, 70 of them has injured as a result of avalanche which was caused by earthquake.

World heritage of Nepal collapsed miserably due to this earthquake. 4 of 7 world heritage site had considerable damage, 80 percentage of cultural property on Kathmandu, the capital of India was broken. Because there are so big damage, it need for five to seven years and several million dollars to recover perfectly. Besides it will be very difficult for Nepal government to arrange cost for restoration because of decreasing tourist.

Another problem about world heritage is tomb robbers. Monks cannot sleep easily because they have to protect their temple, Swayambhunath, one of world heritage from tomb robbers. Although there is enough possibility of additional collapse, they never do not leave temple where they pray for 1600 years.

So United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization completely try to guard stealing world heritage with many volunteers and experts. They check remaining cultural assets of internal and external temple, make list about that and photograph for recording. Also, they ask Nepal’s government to stolen cultural assets will not be traded in international market.

Expected earthquake?

The fact that this earthquake was expected is making headline with increasing damage. In 2010, at that time of Haiti earthquake, the conjecture that next dangerous region of earthquake will be Nepal was announced already and Kathmandu was mentioned as specific area in which earthquake will take place. Especially, a month age, Lorrain bollaengjeo’s research team of French research institution CEA found that the earth crust of that region does not move for hundreds of years in Nepal’s investigation and said that they observed specific indication of earthquake. And less than two weeks after French researchers released such facts in a conference in Nepal, Gorka where it is located only 80km in Kathmandu had earthquake really.

If then, why does not Nepal’s government make any measures about earthquake after it was expected? The people who listen news about the damage and cherish the memory of deaths maybe blames the government. However, prediction of natural disaster is not simple problem like weatherman.

For example, having dinner with family, someone listen to news that country of someone will have serious earthquake sooner or later. The investigation is even done by researchers of other countries. Then, what do you do after listening to such news? Do someone arrange furniture, pack and prepare for moving in safe areas with busting a peaceful atmosphere? Can someone give up everything including job, school, co-workers, friends, neighbors and house for only uncertain possibility of earthquakes?

In macroscopic point of view, if everyone who lives in expected areas of earthquake leave the town voluntarily after they receive such news, the areas are empty and paralyzed. If then, until when does this paralyzed town continue? And who take the responsibility for increasing damage including economic losses which are caused by this paralysis? Even if government force residents to move on safe zone, is blaming for your government which tries to guard the public appropriate?

Of course, damage caused earthquake is very tremendously terrible and a lot of time and costs is needed to recover broken city. But if there is not 100 percent sure about occurrence of savage harm, it is very hard to give up everything only for safety. So such decision is very difficult to nation. Therefore, it is the best way for Nepal government and the people the concentrate on recovering from disaster, currently.
